The ceremony was preceded with preparations. By tradition before a ceremony the ice-hole is prepared and the orthodox cross cut of crystal-clear and transparent Baikal ice is established near to it.

During some last years Andrey, the owner of Derevenka hotel,
take part in manufacturing the of cross and preparing of ice-hole.
As the beginning of winter was too warm, the deepest fresh-water
lake has been held down by immediately ice before Epiphany and it
was necessary to make an ice-hole nearby to the coast. Rescuers
from the Baikal search and rescue group of the Ministry of
Emergency Measures of the Russian Federation have insisted to it
(the group is based nearby to Listvjanka).
Moreover, the signs forbidding departure of cars on ice have been
exposed. The salvage ship on air pillow "Khivus" bore watch nearby
to ceremony place.
But all has ended safely.
The ceremony of consecration of the Baikal water was executed
by father Nikolay, prior of St. Nicolas church in Listvjanka.
The ceremony has come to the end with reading of a pray.
Up to the late evening, despite of 20 degree frost with a breeze,
people did not leave the coast covered by projectors. There were many
visitors from Irkutsk, Angarsk, Shelekhov, other settlements.
In the Epiphany ceremony of ablution have taken part about 500 persons.
