The 9th US/Russian Space Surveillance Workshop took place in Listvyanka in a Krestovaya
pad hotel.
Over the past 18 years a series of eight Space Surveillance Workshops have been held
between US and Russia. These have focused on sharing information about how each nation has
undertaken the task of space surveillance. We have all gained great insight and
appreciation of how each has approaches the same basic problem of satellite observation,
cataloging and characterization.
The leading experts of both countries working in this area take part in these
meetings. As a rule the Workshops pass serially in each of the countries.
Except scientific presentations and discussions the fact of informal communication
and establishment of personal contacts between experts from the different
countries is very important. Organizers of the Workshops always aspire to
choose interesting and unusual places in their countries. The previous 8th
Workshop have been held in the USA on Maui island which is a part of the Hawaiian
Islands. Baikal lake was chosen by the Russian side for the 9th Workshop.
The 9th Space Surveillance Workshop took place in Listvyanka in a Krestovaya
pad hotel conference hall from August 27 to August 30, 2012. The Krestovaya pad
hotel is located in the neighbourhood to our hotel and we assisted on the
organization of excursions and the cultural program for participants of the
Workshop. After seminar closing participants of the American delegation who
were late in Listvyanka for one day waiting for the plane, were invited to us
to a lunch.
